Boxscore
Kyle Reeds, Dave Moccia, Chris Bournazos, and Trentowski each scored a first period goal securing game two of the best of three championship series. GCR goaltender Jason Walker missed the game due to a family vacation, but his acquisition off waivers in December completely changed the goaltending dynamic for the team in black. "Once we added Jason, it turned our season around, and the biggest reason why we’re winners tonight”, said Reeds.
Sam Weiner, a 43-year-old Hobart College veteran filling in for Walker made 42 saves on the night. "The guys played well in front of me. It was a pleasure filling in, hopefully I’ll get a nod in the future."
Kyle Reeds gave Greenhill Car Wash a 1-0 lead 46 seconds into the first period when he accepted a centering pass from Shane Lindt and used his quick hands to dangle one by goaltender Mike Rice.
About a minute later, Chris Bournazos knocked down an errant cross ice pass and found Dave Moccia backdoor. Fresh off the bench, Moccia quickly took the puck to the net and walked around Rice for the tally.
Speedy Bournazos put Greenhill Car Wash ahead 3-0 with a goal at 8:45 of the first period when he broke through the line of blue defense, slipping it by Rice. Moccia with the assist, his second point of the night.
Greenhill Car Wash captain Kenny Trentowski ended the first period barrage with a shot from the top of the circles. Lindt picked up his second apple of the night. “Rice is a top goalie in the league, and you have to go one way, shoot across the body to snipe from that distance," Trentowski said of Rice.
Assurance Media down by four after the first period scored two unanswered goals in the second, Janko Mamrilla from Sutherland and Anthony Pino from Doug Rose. Matt Sutherland scored in the third. Mamrilla and Sutherland each had a goal and assist on the night. Goalie Mike Rice had 38 saves.
"We were badly outplayed in the remaining two periods. They did not give up, we were lucky to weather the storm,``Captain Trentowski said. "There were two reasons we won. Weiner made some big saves and kept us in the game when they kept coming at us, but I also liked our resiliency when they scored. We did not get down, tried to simplify the game, and continued to battle. It was a big win, great season, and we plan on using the $500 cash winnings for water and sodas at the team victory party”, said Trentowski.
As League Commissioner, I would like to thank everyone who played this year, especially to the team captains (Antonio Baccari, Kenny Trentowski, and Mike Cauley). As always, thanks for helping make the CCHL the top men’s league in the area.
Special shout out to Sean Monaghan of Shirt Talkin, the “you gotta win em’ to wear em” championship winter toques are LIT. “Just in time for summer, '' said Reeds. Thanks again Sean for taking care of the boys!
Special shout out to our scorekeeper Alex Clark and officiating crew of Sean Greene, Bill Crawford, John Shaw, and Tom Potts. You guys did an outstanding job this year, thanks again for everything.
Enjoy the upcoming spring, see you all in the summer!
