GREENHILL CAR WASH
SUMMER 2018
CHAMPIONS!
Wilmington, DE. — After 6 seasons, Team Captain Kenny Trentowski and the boys from Greenhill Car Wash finally sit on top of hockey, winning the 2018 CCHL Summer Championship by a final score of 5-3.
6th Seed Logan House opened the scoring in the first period when Mike Davis skated in alone from the right-wing corner, and Davis snapped a shot past the blocker of Brendan Brawley at the 1:14 mark.
2nd Seed Greenhill Car Wash tied the score at 1-1 when Jerry Cunningham one-timed a pass by Anthony Pupplo from Peter Sweetland at 6:09. Greenhill took its first lead of the game with a goal less than two minutes later when John Dennis won the faceoff back to Kenny Trentowski, who then fired a shot from the blue line that found its way into the back of the net, making the score 2-1 in favor of the home team.
But Logan House showed poise in the face of adversity as Matt Riley sauced a “no look” backhand pass over to James Cody who buried at 9:05 in the first period. The teams ended the first period tied, 2-2.
Chris Ordoobadi restored the lead for Greenhill Car Wash with a tally when there was a scramble in front of the net, and Ordoobadi lifted a shot over the glove of Pupplo 1:16 into the second period to make it 3-2. Zac Boyle and Kyle Zoldy picked up the helpers.
Greenhill’s “slow down the pace”, “block every shot possible”, and “trap” strategy remained true to form, and Chris Bournazos netted the eventual game-winner when he was cutting from left to right near the top of the circles and fired the puck past Pupplo at 10:33. Greenhill was on top, 4-2 after two periods of play.
Logan House was relentless on the attack and doing everything they can to claw back within reach. Mike Davis was flying around the net and threw a behind the back, no look pass to a wide-open Ian Finnerty making the score 4-3. Although Finnerty brought Logan House back to within one goal at 11:31 in the third period, Peter Sweetland sealed the victory for Greenhill Car Wash with an empty-net goal at 14:45.
Brawley picked up his first CCHL championship win with 31 saves on 34 shots against; Pupplo took the loss with 32 stops on 36 shots against.
As League Commissioner, I would like to thank everyone who played this year, especially to the team captains (Kenny Trentowski, Matt Riley, Nick Dellaquila, Dan Shirilla, and Mike Cauley). As always, thanks for helping me to keep the league as the top men’s league in the area.
Special shout out to Sean Monaghan of Shirt Talkin, the championship “You gotta win em’ to wear em’” lids are sweet!
Special shout out to our officiating crew of Sean Greene, Brian Valentine, the other fill ins, and our scorekeeper, Alex Clark, you guys did an outstanding job this year, thanks again for everything.
Special shout out to the CCHL veteran Jamie Zelinsky, without your support and sponsorship, Greenhill Car Wash would not be a team.
To the boys who are headed to Juniors, College, and Pro, I wish you all a healthy and successful 18-19 season, Godspeed!
