SUMMER 2017 CHAMPIONS

LOGAN HOUSE

WILIMINGTON, DE.  4th seed Logan House, propelled behind Ian Finnerty’s five-point night, won the 2017 CCHL Summer Championship by defeating the 3-Peat CCHL champs Assurance Media last night by a score of 6-1. Goals coming from five different players; Mike Davis, Liam Board, Ian Finnerty, Derek DiDonato, Eric Breeden.

Both teams were buzzing with energy to start the first period, putting a lot of pressure on goaltenders Mike Rice and Tyler Lefebrve with some crisp passing that lead to several hard shots. At first, the hard work wasn’t paying off but things changed mid-way through the period when league leading goal scorer Mike Davis opened the scoring for Logan House with a power play goal. Davis skated into the offensive zone and ripped a shot by Rice.

Logan House had an inspirational second period of play where they scored three goals, including one with two men in the box.  Liam Board buried a 5 on 3 shorthanded goal on a nice feed by Davis.

Several minutes later, Logan House increased its lead to 3-0 after Ian Finnerty found the back of the net on the power play. Logan House finished the night 2-for-3 on the man advantage. Derek DiDonato made it 4-0 two minutes later, pretty much taking all wind out of Assurance Media’s sails.  Logan House outshot Assurance Media 16-4 in the frame.

Both teams started off the third period with intensity, but Logan House gained some momentum back when Eric Breeden skated thru the zone and found twine, giving Logan House a 5-0 lead.

A minute later, Finnerty scored his second of the night after he, Riley and DiDonato took advantage of a faceoff win with some nice tic-tac-toe passing.

Anthony Pino scored the lone goal for Assurance Media.

“It was a great effort tonight. We were little bit shaky at the start but once we settled things down we played pretty well," said Riley, the Logan House forward and Captain. "We had our share of losses over the years, and we battled hard all the way through. To come out with the Corey Cup is awesome, long overdue.”

As League Commissioner, I would like to thank everyone who played this year, especially to the team captains (Dave Lombardi, Matt Riley, Mike Cauley, Nick Dellaquila, and Kenny Trentowski), you guys helped me retain some sanity, and kept the league going.

Special shout out to our officiating crew of Jason Mandroc and Sean Greene, and our scorekeepers, Jess Kornfiend and Alex Clark, you four did an outstanding job this year, thanks again for everything.

Good Luck to all Junior, College, and Professional players on the upcoming season, enjoy the ride but remember, all roads lead to men’s league!
