2014  CCHL CHAMPIONS

ASSURANCE  MEDIA

Picture
Wilmington, Delaware - Dan Divis, Matt Gordon, John Mortimer and Andrew Baldo scored first-period goals to lead the 4th place Assurance Media team to a 7-5 CCHL Championship victory over the 1st place Buckley’s Tavern on Monday Night.

Assurance Media jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first period and led 5-2 after the second. Buckley’s Tavern did their best to crawl back from the 4 goal deficit but the young legs on Assurance Media kept the pressure on Buckley’s goaltender Ryan Klingensmith and were relentless with the shots on goal.

Mike Cauley and Brett Skalski also scored for Assurance Media.

Sean Monaghan netted a hat trick for Buckley’s Tavern and Dave Lombardi and Aleks Volkov scored for Buckley’s Tavern. The green machine was missing St Louis Blues draft pick Dwyer Tschantz and Lebanon Valley College stay at home defenseman Danny Willey.

“The win felt great. The boys played very well. We came out firing on all cylinders and scored some dirty goals in the first and then tightened up on the back end during the third period to finish them off,” said team captain Mike Cenisio.

“I thought we played well,” said team Captain Dave Lombardi after the loss. “We definitely could have used Tschantz and Willey but we knew we would lose them to college, we had to limit our mistakes and squeak out the win. We battled back in the third and did our best, that’s all that matters.”

This marks the end of the 2014 spring/summer league, huge congrats to the boys on Assurance Media for winning the 2014 Corey Cup this season.

I will follow up with a season recap email this week and also one listing those who made the 1st and 2nd all star teams this season.
