PROVIDENT HOMES
SUMMER
2019
CHAMPIONS!
Wilmington, DE. – The #1 ranked Greenhill Car Wash hockey team fell to #2 Provident Homes on Thursday evening at The Skating Club of Wilmington. Johnny Persichelli turned away 39 of 41 shots and earned 1st star of the game. 2nd star Al Washco (2G, including the GW), and third star Austin Master (1G, 1A) helped lead Provident Homes to their first ever CCHL Summer league title.
The boys were amped due to the warm up songs and both teams came out buzzing, but it was Greenhill Car Wash who scored first with a goal by Chris Ordoobadi, assists to Peter Sweetland and Dylan Dignan. Provident Homes and Austin Master tied it up a few minutes later with a shot from the blue line that ripped by Brendahn Brawley, assists to Matt Mullen and Casey Rogers. The first period was intense, with stellar performance and saves by both goaltenders, and the quick paced period ended tied at 1.
In the second period, Provident capitalized on two scoring chances and ended the period with a 3-1 lead. Both goals were scored by Al Washco nearly 3 minutes apart from one another. Garrett Gallagher picked up an assist on the first goal with a shot on net, Washco finding twine from the rebound. Then, Washco scored his second on the night with some nice cross ice passing by Austin Master and Gallagher.
In the third, Greenhill Car Wash would not quit and found the back of the net to pull within one by a shot from the point by Kenny Trentowksi, Sweetland and Oroobadi with the assists. The next four minutes became a blur, with the black team pushing to even the game with a relentless attack. 1st star of the game Persichelli stood his ground and made some very key saves to keep the boys ahead by one. With less than a minute remaining and their goalie pulled, Gallagher lobbed a long range shot from his own zone and scored, putting Provident up 4-2. With a goalie still out of the net, and only seconds after Gallagher scored, Andrew Romano sent a shot from the center ice faceoff and ended all scoring by both sides for the night. While the score ended 5-2, it was a 3-2 game that could have gone either way. Both teams were hungry to win, and in true CCHL fashion, this game was not your typical men’s league game, and did not disappoint those who came out to watch.
As League Commissioner, I would like to thank everyone who played this year, especially to the team captains (Kenny Trentowski, Mike Cauley, Nick Dellaquila, Dan Shirilla, and Matt Riley). As always, thanks for helping me to keep the league as the top men’s league in the area.
Special shout out to Sean Monaghan of Shirt Talkin, the championship “You gotta win em’ to wear em’” winter lids are sweet!
Special shout out to our officiating crew of Sean Greene, Brian Valentine, the other fill ins, and our scorekeeper, Alex Clark, you guys did an outstanding job this year, thanks again for everything.
For those players who are off to junior, college, and pro, work hard and enjoy the ride. I hope you have a healthy season and I will look forward to catching up next summer!
I will see everyone else this winter!
