GreenHill Car Wash WINS THE COREY CUP
Aston, PA. Greenhill Car Wash won the 2023 CCHL Summer Championship by defeating the winter league champs Zizza Landscape Services last night in overtime by a score of 6-5.

Goals coming from five different Green Car Wash players; Chris Bournazos, Liam McCanney, Anthony Starzi (2), Brett Skalski, and Tj Avellino (GW). Zizza Landscape goal scorers were Matt Sutherland (2), John Mortimer, Casey Rogers, and Shayne Morrissey.
Both teams came out flying to start the first period, putting a lot of pressure on goaltenders Mike Rice and Brendahn Brawley. Rice had solid performance with 44 saves, and Brawley with a spectacular effort stopped 42 of the 47 shots against.
It didn’t take long for Greenhill Car Wash to get on the board with a tap in backdoor goal from Chris Bournazos, assists going to Shane Green and Brett Skalski. Less than five minutes later, Liam McCanney broke away from the defense and scored a breakaway goal on Rice. The period ended 2-0 in favor of Greenhill. Anthony Starzi picked up his two goals with back-to-back efforts giving Greenhill a dominating 4-0 lead early in the second. Assists coming from McCanney (2) and Trentowski.
Finally, after 23 minutes into the game, Matt Sutherland beat Brawley with a hard shot from the right-side face off dot giving Zizza Landscape Services their first goal of the game. About a minute later, ZLS John Mortimer found the back of a net with a shot from the left-hand side that beat Brawley under the glove. Assist going to Mike Lassik. The second period ended 4 – 2 in favor of Greenhill.
Casey Rogers scored early in the 3rd period and blue was one goal away from tying the game. Janko Mamrilla and Shayne Morrissey with the apples. Brett Skalski scored his lone goal of the evening about 6 minutes later giving greenhill a 5-3 lead. Assists going to Dylan Sangmeister and Chris Bournazos. Zizza Landscape Services in my opinion is the CCHL team that never quits, and they scored two late goals in the 3rd period to tie the game 5-5. Both goals were some nice tic-tac toe backdoor goals from Sutherland and Morrissey. Assists on Sutherlands goal from Morrissey and Cauley, and Cauley and Pino with dish on Shayne’s goal.
With three minutes remaining in the game, the boys tossed everything but the kitchen sink at Brawley or Rice but both veteran goalies held strong, and the game went into overtime. Quote of the evening from the Zamboni Driver, “This right here is real hockey, and it’s been really fun to watch, so they can stay on the ice as long as needed until a goal decides the winner”.
We didn’t have to wait long because 55 seconds into overtime TJ Avellino crashed the net off a faceoff win from Brock Weimer and jammed home the overtime game winning goal on Rice securing the Corey Cup, Camo Hats, and cash prize.

As League Commissioner, I could not be happier with the results and parity this season. We finished the regular season with two 8-6 teams, two 7-7 teams, and one 5-9 team. Then, we had two tight playoff games followed by another Overtime championship game. I have no doubt in my mind that you will not find a men’s league with this sort of talent and parity elsewhere. When we started this league 10 years ago, the main goal was to have fun, play competitive hockey with early ice times, but to make sure any team can win on any given night. I say it every year but I think this summer was the best season to date. Therefore, I could not thank you all for your efforts this season.
